Tezcatlipoca

Lord of the Smoking Mirror

Obsidian mirror at the temple of his head, jaguar of the night. Tezcatlipoca is the rival and complement of Quetzalcoatl — they raise suns and knock them down. He is the god who sees, who tests rulers, who can give a kingdom and take it in the same breath. Young men were chosen to live as him for a year before the feast of Toxcatl. His animal is the jaguar; his day is often tied to the First Sun.
