She Who Is Adorned with Bells
The moon, the defeated sister, the temple's first warning
Coatlicue's daughter, leader of the Centzon Huitznahua, the four hundred southern stars. She marched on Coatepec to kill her mother and was thrown in pieces down the mountain by the newborn Huitzilopochtli. The huge Coyolxauhqui Stone at the foot of the Templo Mayor's south stair made every climber walk over that defeat. Many scholars read her as the moon, broken, under the sun's stairs.
